Lithium mica is one of the main raw materials for extracting rare metal lithium. Lithium is the lightest metal, with a specific gravity of 0.534. It can produce lithium-6 for thermonuclear purposes and is an important fuel for hydrogen bombs, rockets, nuclear submarines, and new jet aircraft. Lithium can absorb neutrons and serve as a control rod in atomic reactors. It is used in military applications as a red luminescent agent for signal flares, lighting flares, and as a viscous lubricant for aircraft. In metallurgy, lithium is used as a lightweight alloy and a purifying agent for metal products.
